Tesco: Hygiene

March 09 2019

February 21 2023

Shopping at the Milton Keynes Tesco today was a reminder of how poor their hygiene standards are.

I am referring to the in store bakery, but who knows how far these standards go in this supermarket!

The freshly baked bread is displayed on shelves with no cover separating the bread from the shoppers, who may be (and probably are) coughing and sneezing.

And perhaps picking up the bread and sniffing, feeling it.

I watched a store employee in the MK Tesco bakery handling the bread with no gloves!

I am not being unduly critical here, because you cannot handle food with your bare hands. Who knows what your bare hands have touched, and who else has handled those things.

I find it extraordinary that Tesco have no hygiene rules for their bakery, and it makes me wonder how poor the standards are elsewhere in the shop.

Let us put this in to some perspective. We have traveled to Brazil many times. We never encountered a supermarket or shop in the country where the staff handled the food without gloves.

Tesco hygiene in the bakery section is poor. I cannot buy bread from Tesco, and it makes me wonder about some of their other ‘fresh’ produce.

I saw this today, fresh bread with no cover, out on display!
