Lidl: Really?

We went for a shop at a Lidl for the first time last week when we were away for a few days. We don't have a Lidl near our home, so there has been no reason for us to try it out, but since we were in Cornwall, with a Lidl nearby, it seemed like an opportunity to see what all the fuss is about (everyone we speak to seems to rave about Lidl or Aldi, to the point that they can't understand why we shop anywhere else!). I was not at all impressed with Lidl in Falmouth. There are some familiar brands, that do not seem to be cheaper compared to other mainstream supermarkets, and of course there are the Lidl 'own' brands. There also seems to be less choice, and some obvious things missing (a bakery for example). To cap it off, the shop layout was muddled and confusing (bathroom products alongside cereals, and opposite fruit!). We shop sensibly and take advantage of offers, and this works well for us. And the places we shop are Sainsbury's and Waitrose mainly, which are pleasant places to shop. Our Lidl experience was not pleasant. We won't be back there in a hurry.
